Who Will Have The Last Word?

By Dominus Owen Markham — NightCafe

In dark remote, non-digitally connected buildings, the wordsmiths gathered. Their community came together purely notified by the passing of handwritten notes.

They chose buildings that had become disused and were no longer monitored by the global surveillance cameras.

Extended hours were spent collaborating on projects, novels, poetry, plays and radical plans to overthrow…THEM!

In the space of just a few years, Artificial Intelligence had taken and assumed control of almost everything. The human workforce had become largely redundant as no longer necessary apart from maintaining the global AI network.

The human written word had transcended into a forbidden concept and a large percentage of the population of the world had forgotten, to some extent, the creativity and power of words based on human experience.

And so, an element, the Wordsmiths, took it upon themselves to continue the legacy of the written word, conjuring new human-originated texts. Reading books that they had squirrelled away over the years, books that had escaped the “Rewrite of History”.

They lived in fear but also in hope, that one day humans would once again openly command the power of the written word.
