This Is My Dune
A Planet In Political and Environmental Crisis
Frank Herbert originally wrote and published “Dune” back in 1965.
The movie depicts a planet, Arrakis, in a state of crisis both politically and environmentally.
Politically, various factions and noble families vie for control over the planet and its valuable resources, leading to power struggles, betrayal, and conflict…sound familiar?
“Dune” explores the consequences of human ambition and the exploitation of resources, highlighting the delicate balance between political power, ecological sustainability, and the survival of the planet and its inhabitants.
Thankfully this could never happen in the “real” World….
So, nearly 60 years ago, a work of highly acclaimed fiction, seems to be a vision of the future for our environmentally and politically dysfunctional planet.
Has this book and movie been popular because we see the parallel?
Or do people just see this as a wistful nod to a dream world that could never be?
